Frequently asked questions
Starting personal training often comes with questions. We’ve answered some of the most common ones below so you can better understand how training works at the Corvallis Strength Training Studio, what to expect, and how to get started.
Don’t see your question? Schedule a consultation and one of our coaches will be happy to talk through it with you.

I’ve never worked with a personal trainer before. Is that Okay? Absolutely. Many of our clients come to Corvallis Strength Training Studio with little or no previous strength-training experience. You don't need to know how to lift weights or understand gym equipment before you start. Our coaches will teach you proper technique, explain what you're doing and why, and help you progress at an appropriate pace.
Do I need to be in shape before starting personal training? No. Getting in shape is one of the reasons people start personal training in the first place. We meet you at your current ability level and build from there. You don't need to lose weight, improve your endurance, or get stronger before scheduling your first session.
What happens during my initial consultation? Your consultation is a phone conversation with one of our coaches. We'll talk about your goals, previous training experience, schedule, and what you're looking for from personal training. We'll also explain our private and semi-private training options and answer your questions so we can determine the best way to get started.
How do I get started with personal training at Corvallis Strength Training Studio? Start by scheduling a consultation through our website. After learning about your goals, experience, and preferences, we'll help you decide whether private or semi-private personal training is the better fit and discuss the next steps for beginning your training.
-
What's the difference between private and semi-private personal training? Private personal training is one-on-one: you and your coach. Semi-private personal training allows you to train alongside other clients while still following an individualized program. Semi-private sessions at Corvallis Strength Training Studio are limited to a maximum of three clients so coaches can still provide meaningful instruction and feedback.
Is semi-private personal training the same as a group fitness class? No. In a traditional group fitness class, everyone generally follows the same workout. In semi-private training, clients can have different goals, abilities, and programs while sharing the same coaching environment. We intentionally limit semi-private sessions to no more than three clients.
Do I need to bring friends or a workout partner for semi-private training? No. You don't need to organize your own group before getting started. Clients can join an appropriate semi-private training time based on scheduling and availability. We'll discuss your options during your consultation.
How do I know whether private or semi-private training is better for me? Private training may be a better fit if you prefer a completely one-on-one environment or need greater individual attention and flexibility. Semi-private training can be a great option if you enjoy training around others, want additional accountability, and like the energy of a small training environment. We can help you compare both options during your consultation.

What can personal training help me accomplish? Personal training can help you build strength, improve mobility, increase cardiovascular fitness, improve body composition, develop confidence in the gym, and become more physically capable in everyday life. Your program will depend on your starting point and what you want your training to help you accomplish.
Can I start strength training if I'm over 40 or haven't exercised in years? Yes. There isn't a required age or fitness level for beginning strength training. If you've been inactive for a while, we'll start at an appropriate level and gradually increase the challenge as your strength, fitness, and confidence improve.
Can I train if I have an old injury or physical limitation? In many cases, yes. Training can often be adjusted around previous injuries or physical limitations once it's appropriate for you to exercise. Let your coach know about relevant limitations, medical guidance, or restrictions before training. Personal training isn't a substitute for medical treatment or physical therapy, and we may recommend medical clearance when appropriate.
Will every client follow the same workout program? No. Training is based on the individual rather than a standard workout everyone follows. Your exercises, progression, and training emphasis can vary based on your goals, experience, abilities, and progress—even when you're training during a semi-private session.
How long does it take to see results from personal training? That depends on your starting point, goals, training frequency, consistency, recovery, and other lifestyle factors. Some people notice improvements in confidence, technique, or energy relatively quickly, while changes in strength, fitness, and body composition generally develop progressively over time. We focus on sustainable progress rather than promising a specific result by a specific date.
How often should I work with a personal trainer? The right training frequency depends on your goals, schedule, experience, and what you're doing outside your coached sessions. For many people, consistency matters more than trying to train as often as possible. We'll help you establish a realistic training schedule that fits your life and supports your goals.

What makes Corvallis Strength Training Studio different from a commercial gym? Corvallis Strength Training Studio is a private, appointment-based personal training studio rather than a traditional membership gym. Our environment is designed around coached training, so clients can focus on their workouts without navigating a crowded weight room, waiting for equipment, or trying to figure out their training alone.
Where is Corvallis Strength Training Studio located? Corvallis Strength Training Studio is located at 33821 SE Eastgate Circle in Corvallis, Oregon, in the Eastgate Business Center near Highway 34. Training is by appointment.
Do I need a gym membership to train at Corvallis Strength Training Studio? No. You don't need to purchase a traditional gym membership in addition to your personal training. CSTS is a private personal training studio, and access to the facility is centered around your scheduled training sessions.
What should I wear or bring to my personal training session? Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and athletic shoes appropriate for exercise. Bringing water is also a good idea. You don't need to bring your own workout equipment—we'll provide what you need for your training session.
-
How much does personal training cost at CSTS? Personal training costs can vary depending on whether you choose private or semi-private training, your training frequency, and the option that best fits your needs. Rather than assuming the same training arrangement is right for everyone, we'll discuss the available options and pricing with you so you can make an informed decision.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule a training session? We understand that schedules sometimes change. CSTS has scheduling and cancellation policies designed to protect both our clients' training time and our coaches' schedules. Your coach will explain the current cancellation and rescheduling policy when you begin training.
